3 LIVE CE UNITS

Instructor: Dr. Vera A. Brown, D.M.D., A.R.T. Provider

From bad breath to bad breathing... The dental office is often the first place that patient airway issues are discovered. We cover the most prevalent disorders of the airway, including sleep apnea and snoring, and how they affect your patient's dental care and quality of life. The dental team will learn how to identify signs and symptoms in both adults and children that may go unnoticed or seem unrelated to airway issues. This course also covers sleep and airway terminology, working with physicians or sleep labs, and an overview of oral appliances. This is a valuable course for any clinician interested in airway-focused dental care.

After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:

  • Examine the mouth and oral structures for airway issues
  • Identify signs of sleep apnea, snoring, and myofunctional disorders
  • Become familiar with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and other screening tools
  • Understand the stages of sleep and EEG readings
  • Gain exposure to the different sleep appliances available
  • Review the connection between sleep and Metabolic Syndrome
  • Understand the role of melatonin and other hormones involved in sleep
  • Identify when to treat in office or refer to specialists
This dental CE course is very informative and full of ready-to-use methods and resources for the dentist. Great lecturer.
